Phil Gonet, president of the Illinois Coal Association, has announced he will retire from the post at the end of the year.
The decision brings to a close 16 years of service as an advocate of the state’s coal industry.
“We appreciate Phil Gonet’s many years of hard work on behalf of the ICA,” said Steve Hicks, of White Stallion Energy, the chairman of the ICA board of directors.
The association will begin a formal search for a replacement, Hicks said.
The Illinois Coal Association is the professional trade organization responsible for the promotion of Illinois coal, a natural resource found in great abundance in Illinois. To carry out its mission, the Springfield-based association represents the coal industry in the state in governmental affairs, in public relations and in related matters.
Through the association, companies producing coal in Illinois deal with issues affecting their interests with a single unified voice.
