Construction is underway on the new Father McGivney Catholic High School facility in Glen Carbon, with Holland Construction Services, Inc. serving as the project’s general contractor.
The current high school opened nearly three years ago with 19 students in a three-classroom wing of St. John Neumann Catholic School in Maryville, but with present enrollment at more than  90 students and an anticipated 60 more at the new campus, it has outgrown its “wing.”
The new high school is scheduled to open in August, located at the corner of Old Troy Road and Bouse Road in Glen Carbon, a 10-minute drive from its current location. The 53,000-square-foot, two-story facility designed by Hurford Architects, Inc. includes several classrooms and a commons area, as well as a student lounge, gymnasium and chapel.
Drew Pigeon of Holland indicated that the design and construction of the chapel was especially important. He said other highlighted features in the new facility include a gymnasium with a beautifully finished wood floor as well as a dedicated art classroom. He also said that the school had invested well in providing the latest in technology and equipment for its science laboratories.
“In large part, this project’s success has come about because the board and committee members are all great people that are really invested. They have done everything they could to build a quality school for the students, both present and future, ensuring their educational needs are met for decades to come,” Pigeon said.
